The Shiba Inu: The Shiba Inu is a small hunting dog originating from Japan. They're related to the Akita Inu and the four other "Nihon Ken" breeds. They are one of the oldest dog breeds in the world. They are small but stocky in size and they have a curled tail, a "wedge" shaped face and small, triangular ears. They generally come in 3 colours. Red, Red "Sesame", and Black and Tan. They also come in Cream-White. The Shiba is a loyal, intelligent and charming breed; they are aloof but still enjoy the company of their family. They are alert and confident and keep themselves clean like a cat. They are highly stubborn and can be tough to train with a "what's in it for me" mentality, and still have many hunting instincts; in general they should not be let off-lead in open areas or near roads. Overall they are a very rewarding breed and make very good, loving pets and watch dogs for the right individual. |
